Nathaniel Curran finished runner-up in the 35 minute final which enjoyed sunny weather and excellent 1 – 2 metre waves on the final day of action at Willard Beach. He rode his 5’10” Cheese Stick.

Nathaniel Curran (Oxnard, CA), 27, has earned his best result of the season, finishing second place overall at the ASP Prime Mr Price Pro Ballito behind event winner Glenn Hall (IRL), 30. California’s Nat Young (Santa Cruz, CA), 21, and Puerto Rico’s Brian Toth (PRI), 27, also found success in South Africa, with Young finishing equal 3rd and Toth equal 5th respectively.

Curran, a former ASP WCT competitor, proved his surfing is still top-notch when he eliminated an impressive international list of names on his way to the Final. The Oxnard surfer took down current ASP World No. 4 Adriano de Souza (BRA), 25, South African campaigner Travis Logie (ZAF), 33, and Tiago Pires (PRT), 32, but fell just short of the Mr. Price Pro victory in the final minutes of his bout against Hall.

“It still feels great to get a result,” Curran said. “I’ve been struggling for a year and a half so I’m stoked to make the Final. It was an awesome contest, I’ve been coming here since I was 18 and the waves are always insane. I love coming here and I can’t wait for next year.”

Curran now sits at No. 42 on the ASP World Ranking.

Nat Young was another Californian to put on a solid showing in South Africa while earning his best result of the 2012 season. The talented goofy-footer eliminated ASP WCT heavyweight and national favorite Jordy Smith (ZAF), 24, in the Quarterfinals, but was unable to put a stop to Hall’s rampage in the Semifinals.

“It was a big heat for me, it’s the best result I’ve had in a Prime all year so I’m stoked,” Young said after his Round of 24 heat win.

Young’s equal 3rd place finish places him at No. 21 on the ASP World Ranking and currently within qualification for the 2013 ASP WCT.

Brian Toth’s successful season continued at the Mr Price Pro Ballito. The Puerto Rican veteran was deadly throughout the event’s entirety and finished equal 5th place overall. Toth is now ranked 28 on the ASP World Ranking and could potentially be another new North American face to join the ASP WCT ranks for 2013.

Nathan Yeomans (San Clemente, CA), 30, donated a strong performance of his own at the Mr Price Pro Ballito as well, finishing a respectable equal 9th place and is now inside of the qualification bubble for the 2013 ASP WCT at No. 30 on the ASP World Ranking.

“There were some beautiful conditions out there,” Yeomans said. “This place reminds me of Santa Cruz, California, it has the same reef set up with the rocks and high tide backwash, I like surfing a right hand point so I felt really comfortable out there.”

The next event on the ASP North America calendar will be the Quiksilver Surf Open Acapulco, which will run in Acapulco, Mexico from July 17 through 22, 2012.
